A new beginning

Each day brings the opportunity to do new things.

It’s up to each one of us to decide what we’ll do.

Today marks the beginning of a new professional season for me. The sun has risen and I’ve decided to take another exciting adventure as I start a new company - Wise Insights.

For the past several years, I’ve been the Chief Operating Officer at RoleModel Software. My goal was to put the company on a path to scalable, sustainable growth. I was instrumental in helping the company grow from a $1M+ company to a $4M+ company in less than 3 years. A solid operational framework now underpins the team’s work for innovative clients. It helped lead us to #1510 on the 2017 Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing privately held companies.

So… why close this chapter on a successful role at a growing technology services company?

An abridged chapter from my personal story should provide some helpful context.

When I was in college, I tried a lot of different things but just couldn’t settle on what to do. Then, I ran out of all my general education credits. If I put off the decision any longer, I’d just be spending money while casting about trying out different fields of study.

I didn’t know what to do.

So I asked for help.

Instead of telling me what to do, my dad asked me a single question: What do you like to do?

After I answered, he said: Do that.

It sounds simple, doesn’t it?

Simple, yes. Easy? No — not always.

In college, I set out to be a consultant. Looking back, I clearly see I had no idea what that really meant. But I was right about one thing — the “why”. I wanted to be a consultant because I knew it would give me the opportunity to help lots of people. That’s what I really liked to do.

It has been a long and winding journey. I’ve worked in and with startups, joint ventures, and large companies. I’ve worked in teams that have been actively trying to change things with new ideas and solutions or helping others in their quest to disrupt the status quo.

No matter where I’ve worked, one thing hasn’t changed. A simple statement.

Do that.

I love working with entrepreneurially minded people. There’s just something deeply gratifying about building sustainable, scalable businesses. It is invigorating to help someone clarify their vision AND make it a reality.

It is time to take dad’s advice again.

Doing “that” means returning to the consulting world to help grow more than just one company and team. I’m really excited to step into a future filled with opportunities to use my unique skills, abilities, and perspective to help people:

  • continually focus their leadership vision,

  • engineer their teams with the right people, in the right seats, doing the right things, for the right reasons, and

  • improve their communication skills.

The sun rises on a new day!

What will you do with the opportunity the new day brings to you?

If you’re a leader looking for help clarifying your vision, communicating it to your team, and accelerating results (or know someone who should be), please let me know how I can help!
